As an ex-Toronto food writer and restaurant critic, I favour Toishan as by far the best Chinese/Cantonese restaurant in the Victoria area. BUT when my wife went to pick up a hefty order ($117) last night, she was told it would be another 10 minutes. Fair enough, but turns out the order was on a shelf behind the counter all the time. At the outset, she was told the restaurant didn't get the order, a serious mistake. Yes, restaurants, like the rest of us, make mistakes and we'll continue to dine in at Toishan, but hold the Szechuan vegetables ($16), which was mostly cabbage and deeply unappealing.

Absolutely loved every bite! The food was so delicious and the portions were huge. We will definitely be going back again and again.

Food was ready when I went in to pick it up got it home and it was smoking hot. They did a really good job.

As always, the food was so so good. The staff there are wonderful, my friend and I are in on a semi frequent basis for the ginger beef and it was divine as always. Hot, fresh, and great portions. Super happy with the order! Love that we can get take out or sit in too.

Toishan Kitchen has become our favourite Chinese restaurant! My son says that the food is excellent and it is. I appreciate the extra effort put into preparing the food. The front of house staff are very friendly and helpful. Thanks and keep up the good work!
